Swift Gamma-Ray Satellite

The Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Mission was selected for NASA's Mid-size Explorer (MIDEX) program. From low-earth orbit, Swift detects gamma-ray burst events and "swiftly" slews itself (within tens of seconds) to focus directly on the event with multi-wavelength instruments that provide accurate burst location and extensive scientific analyses.
General Dynamics designed and manufactured the fully-redundant Swift spacecraft from our SA-200HP bus core design and led the instrument integration efforts at NASA Goddard. We also supported environmental testing, launch vehicle integration, the November 2004 launch, and early orbit check-out activities; and we provided 30 days of Mission Operations and two years of sustaining engineering.
