Deployable Aerosol Collection System (DACS)

The General Dynamics Deployable Aerosol Collection System (DACS) is a bead-based aerosol collection platform developed as a candidate system for insertion into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) BIOWATCH Program. DACS collects aerosol samples onto bead cartridges and rinses the collected material into a sealed vial at designated time intervals. The air sampler contains a cartridge packed with coated glass beads that serves as a collection surface for particles from the air as they pass through the cartridge. At the programmed sampling interval, air collection pauses and the cartridge moves to the cartridge rinse station. A buffer solution is then drawn through the cartridge to rinse collected material into a sealed vial. The cartridge may be re-used, providing a stand alone sampler time of 30 days uninterrupted operation. The sealed liquid sample can then be transferred to the laboratory for forensic analysis.
